Broker reviews
#1 Interactive Brokers: Best online broker in Croatia overall
Interactive Brokers leads the list as the best online broker in Croatia.
Founded in 1978, Interactive Brokers is one of the largest international brokers listed on the Nasdaq exchange (ticker: IBKR). It is regulated by many international top-tier regulators, including the FCA, with no minimum deposit requirement. Croatian residents contract with one of the group’s European entities, so check which one you are signing with during the application, since the investor protection scheme follows the entity.
It caters to both beginners and professional investors looking for any type of financial product (bonds, ETFs, shares, you name it), an easy-to-use platform, advanced technical and fundamental trading tools, and a strong educational component.
Interactive Brokers supports various account base currencies, including EUR, USD and GBP. However, funding these accounts is limited to bank transfers. They offer one of the tightest spreads in the market, and their tiered commission varies depending on your monthly trading volume.
For investors who prefer to trade on the go, Interactive Brokers offers the IBKR Mobile app, providing convenience and advanced functionality.
IBKR GlobalTrader is another mobile trading app offered by Interactive Brokers, built for simple worldwide trading. The app offers the flexibility to trade in fractions and invest with as little as $1, making trading accessible to all levels. You can also open a simulated account to practise before going live, with $10,000 in virtual cash.
On the downside, you might be overwhelmed by the number of buttons and features on each platform, especially if you are new to investing. Interactive Brokers offers a lot of educational materials and video tutorials to help you navigate them.

#2 eToro: Best for commission-free ETFs and social trading
52% of retail CFD accounts lose money.
Another strong platform in Croatia is eToro, an international broker with over 40 million users who trade stocks, forex, commodities, cryptocurrencies, CFDs, and ETFs. It has been listed on the Nasdaq since May 2025. It is known for its social trading feature, where you can copy the trades of other experienced traders, picking them by past return, risk profile, or other factors.
The eToro platform gives users access to thousands of financial instruments, including real stocks and ETFs. Users can also invest in ready-made portfolios (Smart Portfolios), which group several assets or traders around a theme or strategy.
eToro offers commission-free ETF trading in Croatia. For US, EU, and Asian stocks, you will be charged $1 per trade. This rises to $2 per trade if you invest through the Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai or Abu Dhabi exchanges.
Opening an account and depositing is easy, and you can try it out with virtual money in a demo account. On the downside, spreads can be high on some products, and currency conversion is a real cost if you hold a USD account and deposit in euros.

The platform offers 0% commissions on stocks, though its software is more oriented to CFD and forex trading with competitive costs.
Opening an account and transferring money is a quick and hassle-free process. For beginners, it presents a demo account where you can trade as if it were real money, and you get access to educational tools. XTB also offers other financial products, such as commodities and cryptocurrencies. It charges high commissions on cryptocurrency CFDs but low costs for forex. You will also face an inactivity fee of €10 a month if you have not traded for a year and have not deposited in the last 90 days.

#4 DEGIRO: Best broker for long-term investors
Investing involves risk of loss.
Founded in 2013, DEGIRO is a low-cost brokerage firm that has become very popular due to its low rates. With over 3 million users, the platform is widely known for its do-it-yourself philosophy, in the sense that you have everything at your disposal to start investing on your own. It offers a wide range of financial assets to trade, including stocks, ETFs, bonds, options, futures contracts, warrants, investment funds, and some leveraged products (not quite the same as CFDs, more info here).
For instance, you can trade ETFs at low cost (a €1.00 flat handling fee, plus external costs, still applies) with no minimum amount required. The web trading platform is basic, but it is efficient and straightforward to use. In a matter of minutes, you get used to it. The same applies to its mobile app. On the downside, there is an absence of significant fundamental research, a €1.00 commission for US stocks, a €2.50 annual connectivity fee per exchange, and pricing alerts are missing.
Regarding security, DEGIRO is the Dutch branch of flatexDEGIRO Bank AG (a German-regulated bank). In the unlikely event that the segregated assets cannot be returned to clients, DEGIRO falls under the German Investor Compensation Scheme, which compensates any losses from non-returned assets up to 90%, with a maximum of €20,000, so bear this in mind if you are planning to invest much larger volumes. Furthermore, any money deposited in a DEGIRO Cash Account with flatexDEGIRO Bank AG is guaranteed up to €100,000 under the German Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
Still have doubts? Go through our DEGIRO review.

Cons
- 0.25% currency conversion fee (charged if you deposit or invest in a different currency than your base currency)
- €/£1 flat handling fee (charged in most transactions)
- €/£2.50 of connectivity fee (paid annually), per exchange where you’re invested
- Does not offer Forex or CFDs
- No ISA account (for UK residents)
- Low-quality customer support
- No interest paid on cash balances
#5 Plus500: Best broker for CFDs
81% of retail CFD accounts lose money.
Founded in 2008, Plus500 is an online broker offering a wide range of financial products, including real shares and CFDs on forex, indices, shares, commodities, options, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies. It is available in over 50 countries and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
There are two distinct account types:
- Plus500 CFD: focused on CFD products only;
- Plus500 Invest: where you can trade real shares. Availability varies by country, so check whether it is offered to Croatian residents before you sign up.
As a side note, Plus500 Futures, a platform available only to US users, is also part of the Plus500 group.
The web platform you will use is WebTrader, Plus500’s proprietary platform, offering a stable trading experience and reliable access from multiple devices, including a mobile app. All platforms are accessible and responsive, and you can start testing the features by opening a demo account.
Customer support is helpful and easily reached through a chat that is always visible on the trading platform. Spreads are low, with accounts in sixteen currencies, including USD, EUR, and GBP. Still, they charge a 0.70% currency conversion fee and a $10 monthly fee after three months with no activity. On Plus500 Invest, they charge a small commission per trade (US market: $0.006 per share).
Finally, it is regulated by authorities such as the FCA and CySEC, meaning Plus500 is appropriately supervised and there is an investor protection scheme under the entity where you open your account. Croatian clients contract with Plus500CY Ltd, which brings protection of up to €20,000 under the Cypriot Investor Compensation Fund. Plus500 also provides negative balance protection for CFD trading to retail clients in the European Union.

#6 Saxo: Best broker for professional traders
62% of retail CFD accounts lose money.
Founded in 1992, Saxo Bank is one of the most established names in the brokerage industry, backed by decades of experience and a strong track record. Investors can access tens of thousands of financial instruments through Saxo’s platforms: SaxoInvestor, designed for long-term investors, and SaxoTrader, built for more advanced trading and analysis across web, mobile, and desktop.
The wide range of cash and margin trading products across global markets includes stocks, ETFs, bonds, mutual funds, crypto ETPs, options, futures, CFDs and forex.
The Saxo account tiers are the following:
- Classic: no minimum deposit in most countries, giving you access to tight spreads and customer and technical support 24/5;
- Platinum: a minimum of €200,000, which lowers trading prices by up to 30% and prioritises local-language customer support;
- VIP: a minimum of €1,000,000, with the best prices, access to trading experts, and exclusive event invitations.
The pricing structure varies with your account tier. A US stock order costs 0.08% of the trade value, with a minimum of $1, on Classic. On VIP, the same trade would be 0.03% with the same $1 minimum.
Custody fees are the part worth checking before you commit. Saxo removed them entirely in several core European markets during its 2024-2025 pricing overhaul, but they still apply in others, ranging from roughly 0.09% to 0.15% a year, sometimes waivable by opting into securities lending. Check the pricing page for your country of residence rather than assuming.
Saxo Bank A/S is a fully licensed European bank supervised by the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority. It is a member of the Danish Guarantee Fund, which protects client cash deposits up to €100,000 and securities up to €20,000 per client.

- Fees higher than average

- Does not accept US residents
