You have probably heard about the Robinhood app and want to know if it is available in Singapore, right?

Robinhood is a modern, easy-to-use investment app from the US that popularised the concept of commission-free trading in financial products such as stocks and ETFs.

Do you want to know if the Robinhood app is available in Singapore, what its expansion plans are, and what alternatives are available in Singapore? We have got you covered.

What is Robinhood?

Founded in 2013, Robinhood has played a major role in disrupting the brokerage industry by allowing US retail investors to trade with no commissions. Robinhood offers stocks, ETFs, options, futures (launched October 2025), and cryptocurrencies.

The results are clear: Robinhood counts over 27 million Funded Customers and approximately $324 billion in assets under custody. The company is listed on NASDAQ under the ticker HOOD since July 2021 and was included in the S&P 500 in 2025. In response to Robinhood’s exponential growth, several well-established US brokers moved to eliminate trading commissions in late 2019, including E*TRADE (subsequently acquired by Morgan Stanley in 2020) and Charles Schwab (which absorbed TD Ameritrade, whose brand has since been fully retired).

Is Robinhood available in Singapore?

Robinhood is not yet available in Singapore for its traditional stock and ETF brokerage service. However, in April 2026, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) granted Robinhood an in-principle approval (IPA) for a Major Payment Institution licence, paving the way for Robinhood to launch crypto services in Singapore. This followed Robinhood’s June 2025 acquisition of Bitstamp, the veteran European crypto exchange, which forms the technical foundation for its Asian crypto rollout.

A full stock brokerage offering has not yet been announced for Singapore. Beyond crypto, Robinhood’s international expansion so far has focused on the UK (launched early 2024) and the EU (via Robinhood Europe UAB, launched in 2025 under Bank of Lithuania supervision), so Singapore remains a distinct project on the roadmap rather than an imminent launch.

In the meantime, Singapore residents can access several strong Robinhood alternatives that are already fully operational locally, offering commission-free or low-cost access to global markets – and in most cases with MAS-regulated entities providing an additional layer of oversight.

Best Robinhood Singapore alternatives

To answer this question, we focused on low-cost online brokers that are readily available to Singapore residents. Here are our top suggestions:

  1. Interactive Brokers: founded in 1978 and NASDAQ-listed (ticker: IBKR; S&P 500 constituent since 2024), IBKR is one of the world’s most established online brokers, offering access to 170+ markets in 36+ countries (including SGX). Product range spans stocks, ETFs, options, futures, bonds, forex, and cryptocurrencies, with among the lowest FX conversion fees on the market (0.20 basis points, with a $2 minimum). Founded in 1978 and publicly listed on NASDAQ (ticker: IBKR; added to the S&P 500 in 2024), Interactive Brokers is a global online broker that has weathered multiple financial crises, demonstrating resilience and a rigorous risk management framework. Interactive Brokers has 3 million+ client accounts worldwide.

Interactive Brokers offers an advanced investment platform with a broad product range (stocks, options, mutual funds, ETFs, futures, bonds, currencies, and cryptocurrencies) across 170+ markets in 36+ countries – including SGX for Singapore-listed equities and access to major Asian venues such as HKEX, TSE, and ASX, solid trade execution (IB SmartRouting), and a comprehensive set of technical and fundamental tools to support your investment decisions.

For Singapore beginners and intermediate investors, educational content is available via IBKR Campus (formerly Traders’ Academy), although the main TWS platform has a steep learning curve. That is why we primarily recommend it to more advanced traders. Customer support typically provides clear and concise answers, reducing the need for back-and-forth communication.

On the downside, Interactive Brokers’ fee structure is comparatively complex, the registration process is lengthy (though fully online), and the broker does not offer fully commission-free trading. However, when factoring in competitive FX fees (0.20 basis points with a $2 minimum), tight spreads, the Stock Yield Enhancement Program (SYEP), and cash interest on uninvested SGD/USD balances above certain thresholds, Singapore clients can achieve significant savings versus most brokers. Singapore clients are served by Interactive Brokers Singapore Pte. Ltd., licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), with native SGD base currency support.

Interactive Brokers also offers IBKR GlobalTrader, a modern mobile app for trading stocks, options, and ETFs, designed for beginner investors. Features include automatic currency conversion, fractional shares from $1, a $10,000 virtual demo account, and more.

CFDs involve a high level of risk. 74-89% of retail investors lose money.

Founded in 2016, Capital.com is a fintech group committed to building an intuitive trading experience. It leverages AI-enabled technology and integrations with platforms like TradingView to deliver a differentiated experience for both new and experienced traders.

With 500,000+ active users, Capital.com offers commission-free trading on real stocks, ETFs, and CFDs on indices, shares, cryptocurrencies, commodities, and forex. The main costs you will encounter are spreads (the difference between buy and sell prices) and overnight fees (only if you hold leveraged positions).

The desktop and mobile trading platforms are highly customisable, with access to news feeds, extended trading hours, and a wide range of order types. Investors also have significant educational content to explore. The minimum deposit is only $20 (except for wire transfers, which require $250), and customer service is available 24/7 through multiple channels including live chat, email, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger.

Capital.com is supervised by top-tier regulators including the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus), ASIC (Australia), and NBRB (Belarus). Client protections include investor protection schemes (varying by entity), negative balance protection, segregated funds, two-factor authentication, and strong data protection standards. For Singapore residents, Capital.com is accessible via its Cyprus and Australian entities, though access to certain products depends on your country of residence and the specific entity onboarding you.

On the downside, real stock and ETF trading is not available in all countries, the platform does not currently offer options or bonds, and the range of features may feel overwhelming for absolute beginners.

Disclaimer: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. A high percentage of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with Capital.com.

Which platform should you choose?

Several factors are worth considering when choosing an online broker for the Singapore market:

  • Fees: commissions, FX costs, custody fees, inactivity fees, and withdrawal charges as a total cost of ownership;
  • Regulation: prioritise brokers licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), or by other reputable global regulators (FCA in the UK, ASIC in Australia, SEC/FINRA in the US) with clear MAS recognition or cross-border approvals;
  • Product range: not all platforms allow you to trade options in Singapore, access Singapore-listed stocks on the SGX, or trade cryptocurrencies, so verify the universe matches your strategy;
  • SGD base currency support: brokers offering native SGD accounts (e.g., Interactive Brokers Singapore) reduce FX friction when funding and reporting positions – a meaningful benefit for Singapore-based traders;
  • Tax reporting: Singapore does not impose capital gains tax on individual investors, and dividend income from Singapore-listed companies is generally tax-exempt at the shareholder level. However, foreign-sourced dividends may be subject to withholding at source, so clear broker reporting simplifies compliance with IRAS obligations where applicable.

The best online broker for you will depend on your profile, preferences, and objectives. Explore the platforms above and decide for yourself.

The above should not be construed as investment advice and is for informational purposes only. Investors should do their own research and due diligence regarding the services and opportunities best suited to their risk, return, and impact strategy, and consult a certified financial adviser or tax professional when needed.

How exactly does Robinhood make money?

The online broker earns money from interest earned on customers’ cash balances (money in your account not invested) by selling order information to third parties (high-frequency traders, for instance) and margin lending.

Regarding selling orders, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is still investigating Robinhood for not fully disclosing its practice of selling clients’ orders to high-speed trading firms.

Until October 2018, Robinhood would not clearly state that it was receiving payments for order flows. By law, any financial company must reveal all the material facts an investor would want to know before making any investment decision.
