  • Interactive Brokers (IBKR) is a great option for retail investors interested in optimising their trading commissions. It is ideal for beginners or professionals seeking a wide range of instruments and a secure broker. On the downside, if you are new to investing, the platform may be a bit complicated with too many buttons and features. Day traders may take advantage of the broker’s diverse market access, allowing them to trade in their preferred time zone.
  • Plus500 is one of Europe’s best-known CFD specialists, built around a clean, proprietary WebTrader platform that keeps order entry straightforward and efficient, a strong fit for day traders who value speed and clarity over institutional-grade complexity. The broker offers 2,800+ CFD instruments, including a wide selection of options CFDs rarely found elsewhere, and stands out for its risk management toolkit, including guaranteed stop-loss orders (GSLO) that protect you from gap risk on volatile instruments. On the downside, Plus500 does not pay interest on uninvested cash, so idle balances between trades earn nothing.
  • Pepperstone is the platform-agnostic option on this list, and the only broker here supporting MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView execution alongside its own platform. Its Razor account prices FX from 0.0 pips with a fixed commission from $3.50 per lot per side, or €2.60 on a euro account, and hedging and fully automated strategies are permitted, a combination that suits systematic traders running Expert Advisors or cBots.
  • eToro is the go-to option for social trading, allowing you to copy successful traders or share your own trades with a wider audience. The interface is very user-friendly and ideal for novice investors. However, if you have extensive experience in the markets, you may miss some niche features offered by trading platforms designed for professionals.
  • Freedom24 is an online brokerage platform known for offering access to a wide range of global stocks, ETFs, and bonds. It provides competitive fees, advanced trading tools, and a user-friendly interface suitable for both new and experienced investors. With a focus on accessibility, Freedom24 caters to investors seeking cost-effective and diverse portfolio options.
  • Saxo Bank has a product offering very similar to IBKR, albeit with slightly higher commissions. SaxoTrader’s functionality arguably makes it more suited to sophisticated investors who can take full advantage of it.
  • XTB is one of the most popular CFD and forex brokers, and one of the few here that pays interest on uninvested cash: currently 2.30% on EUR, 3.45% on USD and 4.00% on GBP, with no minimum or maximum balance. That matters for day traders who close all positions and sit in cash at the end of the trading day.
  • Fusion Markets also targets the CFD and forex field. The broker allows traders to choose between two account types: the Zero account, with raw spreads and a commission of $4.50 per round turn ($2.25 per side, or €2.03 per side on the EU entity), or the Classic account, with $0 commission and spreads from around 0.9 pips. Fusion Markets publishes nothing about interest on uninvested cash, which puts it at a disadvantage against peers for traders who return to cash overnight. On a positive note, the broker has a very quick sign-up process.
  • Trading 212 is a CFD and forex broker that also offers real stocks and ETFs (Trading 212 Invest) alongside its leveraged CFD business (Trading 212 CFD). New clients may be eligible for a free fractional share, and Trading 212 now offers 24/5 trading on the most liquid US stocks, which is the feature most relevant to this article. Trader Workstation (TWS), the proprietary trading platform of Interactive Brokers, is widely regarded as one of the most powerful day trading platforms built by a brokerage. It includes two layouts: TWS Mosaic, a fully customisable workspace ideal for single-monitor setups, and Classic TWS, which unlocks the full set of advanced tools that experienced day traders rely on, Level II depth-of-book, direct market access (DMA), advanced order types, hotkeys, and detailed execution reports.

You get comprehensive order management, professional-grade technical charts, watchlists, and real-time portfolio monitoring in a single view. Day traders can organise workflows by asset class, monitor multiple correlated tickers simultaneously, and stay informed with an integrated news feed. TWS also offers powerful tools like ComboTrader, which lets you build proprietary multi-leg strategies (spreads, straddles, condors) or select from templates with predefined logic to execute complex day trades quickly.

Interactive Brokers also offers a web-based alternative called Client Portal, a lighter version of TWS that lets you track portfolio performance and execute essential trades, plus IBKR Desktop, a newer streamlined platform, and the IBKR Mobile app for access on the go.

On account minimums, note the distinction that matters for this audience: there is no minimum to open a cash account, but a margin account requires the equivalent of $2,000, and most day traders will want margin.

We opened an account and extensively tested TWS alongside the mobile app. For day traders looking for advanced charting, depth-of-market data, algo order routing, and access to detailed instrument information (transcripts, filings, news), TWS is genuinely indispensable. The mobile app was particularly useful when we had to close a position on the go after a surprising intraday move, and works well when you spot a pullback opportunity and want to open a small position without booting up the desktop. We did have some difficulty locating niche options contracts on mobile, so for less liquid instruments where you do not already have an open position, the desktop version remains the fastest way to execute in a timely manner.

81% of retail CFD accounts lose money.

Plus500 is a CFD specialist founded in 2008 and listed on the London Stock Exchange (ticker: PLUS, FTSE 250 constituent), regulated by multiple top-tier authorities including the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus), ASIC (Australia), and MAS (Singapore). European clients are served through Plus500CY Ltd (CySEC licence no. 250/14), with protection of up to €20,000 under the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund.

The proprietary WebTrader platform is where Plus500 shines for day traders who prioritise innovation. The interface is fast and uncluttered: large buy/sell buttons, a prominently displayed bid-ask spread, and an order ticket that asks for one decision per field, leverage, position size, stop loss, take profit, trailing stop. Multi Charts lets you monitor several charts simultaneously, and the platform includes over 100 technical indicators plus real-time trading alerts so you can react quickly to intraday moves without staring at the screen all day.

View from Plus500 WebTrader

Risk management is a notable feature of Plus500’s offering for active traders. Beyond standard stop-loss, take-profit, and trailing stop orders , the broker offers guaranteed stop-loss orders (GSLO) on selected instruments. For traders holding CFD positions during periods of heightened market volatility, GSLOs can help limit exposure to price gaps by guaranteeing the specified exit price. Negative balance protection applies to all retail accounts.

Instrument coverage spans indices, forex, commodities, cryptocurrencies, shares, ETFs and an extensive selection of options CFDs not commonly available at competing brokers. Plus500 publishes the 2,800+ instrument count for its UK entity, so the range available to you through Plus500CY may differ. The +Insights feature adds provides aggregated trading data from Plus500’s client base, including information on the most traded instruments and overall client positioning, which can offer additional context on retail market sentiment.

Pricing is spread-based with no buy or sell commissions. Additional charges may include overnight funding on leveraged positions held overnight, a currency conversion fee of up to 0.7% of the realised net profit and loss on a trade, and an inactivity fee of up to $10 a month after three months without logging in.

We opened an account and tested WebTrader on both desktop and mobile. In our testing, order execution appeared fast, and the unlimited demo account, which comes with virtual funds and an adjustable balance, provides a practical way to explore the platform and test trading strategies before committing real capital.

That said, advanced day traders should be aware of the platform’s limitations: there is no Level II depth-of-book data, no MetaTrader integration, no algorithmic trading, and no interest paid on uninvested cash, but Plus500’s primary offering remains CFD trading.

74-89% of retail CFD accounts lose money.

Pepperstone was founded in Melbourne in 2010 and reports more than 900,000 traders across nine licensed entities. European clients are served by Pepperstone EU Limited, authorised and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under licence 388/20, with client money held in segregated accounts at tier-1 banks and Investor Compensation Fund cover of either 90% of the covered claim or €20,000, whichever is lower.

What sets Pepperstone apart for day traders is that it does not ask you to learn a proprietary terminal. Alongside its own platform and app, it supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and native TradingView execution, no other broker in this article offers all four. If you already run an Expert Advisor, a cBot or a purchased strategy, you can bring it with you rather than rebuild it.

Pepperstone homepage

Pricing comes in two forms. The Standard account builds a mark-up into the raw spread, from 0.6 pips on major FX pairs and 1 pip on the rest, with no separate commission on FX, indices or commodities, though shares and ETFs carry a commission from $0.02 per share. The Razor account gives you the raw spread, from 0.0 pips on FX and 0.08 on spot gold, plus a fixed commission from $3.50 per lot per side, or €2.60 on a euro-denominated account, dropping to $3.00 per side on cTrader. For the trade frequency day trading implies, Razor is almost always the cheaper route, and high-volume traders can claim rebates through the Active Trader Program.

Execution is where the broker built its reputation: no dealing desk, liquidity aggregated from Tier-1 banks, and explicit permission for hedging, which not every European broker allows. TradingView integration is worth singling out for intraday work, since you can place and manage orders directly from your own charts, indicators and alerts. Note that it requires a Razor account and is not available on Standard.

The gaps matter for this audience. Everything is a CFD, so there is no real share ownership, and no interest is paid on uninvested cash, a genuine disadvantage if your strategy is to close all positions and sit in cash overnight. There is also no native copy trading and no guaranteed stop-loss orders. Non-trading costs are otherwise clean: no inactivity fee, no deposit or withdrawal fees from Pepperstone itself, though international bank withdrawals may attract charges, and EUR is available as a base currency. The minimum deposit is effectively nil, with a $10 minimum on most top-up methods.

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Between 74-89 % of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

52% of retail CFD accounts lose money.

eToro offers one of the most intuitive trading platforms for European retail traders, though it is best suited to swing and short-term traders rather than pure day traders who require deep Level II data. The broker’s most distinctive feature is social trading, allowing you to copy the portfolios of successful traders (Popular Investors) or share your own approach with a community.

The TipRanks research tab aggregates the collective views of investors and analysts from major financial institutions, giving you a quick read on whether a stock has a buy, hold, or sell consensus. For traders who prioritise fast execution, the platform offers one-click trading, allowing you to open a position using pre-set parameters with a single click.

eToro is well known for its user-friendly interface and strong visualisation. ProCharts is a professional-grade technical analysis tool that compares charts from different instruments or timeframes side by side. The Economic Calendar is another useful feature, helping you track earnings reports, dividend dates, and key macro data releases relevant to your intraday setups.

We opened an account and worked through the app’s features with ease. Setting up trades is very intuitive, and exploring stock-specific pages surfaces a large volume of easy-to-read information. That said, the lack of deeper instrument data (Level II depth, granular order flow, direct market routing) may leave more advanced day traders wanting more. For the majority of retail traders, and especially for those starting out, eToro is a strong platform to enter the world of active trading.

Investing involves risk of loss.

Freedom24, part of Freedom Holding Corp (NASDAQ: FRHC), has emerged as a cost-effective brokerage option for retail investors compared with traditional brokerage firms. The platform provides access to a broad range of global financial products including stocks, ETFs, bonds and US options across major exchanges (NASDAQ, NYSE, LSE, Deutsche Börse, HKEX and others). New users who register and fund their account by 31 October 2026 can also benefit from up to 20 gift shares (terms apply).

Freedom24 also offers ETF Investment plans, which let you invest regularly in selected securities with €0 commission. Please note: the €0 fee applies only to purchases within the Freedom24 Recurring Investment function. Other fees apply according to the Freedom24 Fee Schedule. In the Netherlands, Germany, Lithuania, Spain, Greece and Italy, clients can also ask their personal manager for investment advice once they complete a suitability test.

With no minimum deposit, Freedom24 offers two main pricing plans: All Inclusive in EUR, which includes a personal manager, and Smart in EUR, which suits self-directed traders with lower volumes. Both apply a €7 withdrawal fee. Day traders will particularly appreciate access to US stock options (starting at $0.65 per contract on the Smart plan) and detailed order routing options.

Freedom Finance Europe Ltd is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) under CIF licence 275/15 and passported across the EU under MiFID II. In the unlikely event that segregated assets cannot be returned to clients, Freedom24 is covered by the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund (ICF), which protects non-returned investments up to €20,000. Parent Freedom Holding Corp is NASDAQ-listed and subject to SEC reporting, PCAOB audit oversight, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, providing an additional layer of transparency.

62% of retail CFD accounts lose money.

Saxo, the brand name of Saxo Bank A/S, is now majority-owned by the J. Safra Sarasin Group, which completed its acquisition of roughly 71% on 2 March 2026, an agreement first announced in March 2025. Founder Kim Fournais retained around 28%.

Saxo has consolidated its platform line-up into two: SaxoInvestor, the simpler portfolio-focused option, and SaxoTrader, available on web, mobile and desktop, which carries the full product range and the tools active traders need. The older GO and PRO platform names have been retired on the main site, though they still appear on some regional ones. We focus on SaxoTrader here.

SaxoTrader is an award-winning platform with a strong feature set: fundamental and technical analysis tools, an extensive charting package with 85+ technical indicators, performance analytics, a comprehensive account overview and a clean user interface. Day traders can trade 71,000+ instruments across stocks, ETFs, bonds, options, futures, forex and CFDs, with average market-order execution around 0.012 seconds.

News and expert research are available through the proprietary SaxoStrats feature, with in-house analysts covering the latest market moves. The Depth Trader feature, available on desktop, displays the buy and sell orders waiting to be executed so you can manage entries and exits more precisely, which is valuable for scalping and short-term strategies.

Risk management tools available to European day traders include an account shield, which acts at account level rather than on a single position, alongside trailing stops, stop-limit orders and margin alerts. Sometimes it is better to end the trading day at a controlled loss and return to the market fresh the next day.

Saxo provides 24-hour support and educational resources for all trader levels. Its top standard tier, called VIP in most markets and Gold in some, starts at 1,000,000 in the account currency, measured as combined cash and portfolio value or qualified by trading volume, and adds priority service and event invitations. Above it sits Saxo Elite, for clients with €5 million or more in investable assets or annual trading volumes above €200 million. Saxo’s A- long-term credit rating from S&P Global Ratings, with a positive outlook as of August 2026, gives active traders some confidence in the stability of the counterparty holding their capital.

One caveat on cash: Saxo does pay interest on uninvested balances, but its own pages tie eligibility to your account tier and, in some markets, to a minimum balance. Check what applies to your tier rather than assuming every client earns it.

XTB offers stock, ETF and CFD trading through its flagship xStation 5 platform, with more than 9,700 stocks and ETFs, over 2,700 leveraged CFD instruments, 70+ forex pairs and around 140 options on US stocks and ETFs, for more than 12,600 instruments in total. The trading interface includes several features useful for European day traders, including market sentiment, which aggregates the positioning bias among all XTB clients on specific instruments, giving you a quick read on retail consensus.

European day traders benefit from comprehensive charting tools with integrated risk management: you can place take-profit or stop-loss levels directly on the charts you have just created, cutting execution time on repeated setups. XTB also offers one-click trading and configurable hotkeys for faster order entry.

The platform incorporates news from in-house analysts, an economic calendar to track macro data releases, and an XTB Trading Academy covering everything from basic technical analysis to advanced day trading strategies. XTB is publicly listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (ticker: XTB). The group is authorised by the KNF in Poland, the FCA in the UK (FRN 522157) and CySEC in Cyprus (licence 169/12), and operates through registered branches elsewhere, including XTB S.A. Sucursal em Portugal, registered with the CMVM under number 341. XTB also pays interest on uninvested cash, currently 2.30% on EUR, 3.45% on USD and 4.00% on GBP, with no minimum or maximum balance.

European clients are served by Fusion Markets EU Ltd, authorised by CySEC under licence 444/24 since April 2024, which brings segregated client money, negative balance protection, ESMA leverage caps and Investor Compensation Fund cover of 90% of the claim or €20,000, whichever is lower. Note that the group’s non-EU entities are regulated in Vanuatu, the Seychelles and Australia, and that Spain appears on the group’s restricted country list.

The broker offers cTrader, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, though the EU entity’s own pages currently feature MetaTrader 5 most prominently, so confirm platform availability for your account before opening one.

cTrader is particularly well suited to active day traders. Its market depth feature includes standard market depth, price depth, and volume-weighted average price (VWAP) depth, allowing you to see full liquidity at each price level. The charting package includes 26 timeframes and 80+ built-in indicators, giving you full flexibility for setting up entry and exit triggers.

Once you are familiar with the platform, QuickTrade Mode allows you to pre-configure your order types and risk management levels, then execute trades with a single click, essential for scalping and momentum strategies where seconds matter.

For European day traders looking to complement discretionary trading with algorithmic execution, cAlgo allows you to build powerful automated strategies and deploy your own trading bots directly within cTrader. Fusion Markets also offers raw spreads from 0.0 pips with a fixed commission of $4.50 per round turn, that is $2.25 per side, or €2.03 per side on the EU entity, which is attractive for high-frequency day trading strategies. The alternative Classic account charges no commission with spreads from around 0.9 pips instead.

Trading 212 offers both forex and CFD trading (Trading 212 CFD) and commission-free real stock and ETF trading (Trading 212 Invest). In total, users can access over 13,000 stocks and ETFs, plus forex, indices, commodities and crypto-related products across CFDs. Trading 212 reports 5 million+ clients, a figure its own footnote defines as lifetime funded accounts rather than active users.

The platform has a well-organised education hub, available here. Novice traders can explore the core concepts driving financial markets and get a fast, structured start in active trading.

The most notable feature for day traders is 24/5 trading on Invest and Stocks ISA accounts, covering the most liquid NYSE and NASDAQ securities across four sessions: pre-market, regular, after-hours and overnight. On CFD accounts, extended hours add around nine and a half hours beyond the regular session. Fractional shares start from £1.

Trading 212 also offers cash interest on uninvested GBP, EUR and USD balances via qualifying money market funds from BlackRock and JPMorgan alongside bank deposits, so idle intraday cash still generates a yield.

Trading 212 also runs sign-up offers, which you can access here. UK clients are served by Trading 212 UK Ltd (FCA-regulated, with FSCS investment protection up to £85,000), while EU clients are served by Trading 212 EU GmbH (BaFin) or Trading 212 Markets Ltd (CySEC) depending on country of residence.

The protection gap is worth knowing: EU GmbH clients are covered by the German EdW scheme at 90% of eligible funds up to €20,000 per person, with uninvested cash protected up to €100,000 per partner bank. That €20,000 ceiling is a good deal lower than the UK’s £85,000.

Note also that Trading 212 does not offer options or bonds, which is worth considering if your day trading strategy relies on those instruments.
