Wise is a financial technology company based in London, founded in 2011 to make international money transfers cheap, fair and simple.

Today, Wise lets you send and receive money, hold balances in more than 40 currencies, spend with a debit card and even open a Wise Business account, all in the same place.

It also offers Interest and Stocks through its Assets product, but is it available in your country, what does it cost and are there better alternatives? In this article, we answer all three questions.

How much can you earn with Wise Interest?

Wise Interest invests your money in government money market funds, so the return is variable and follows central bank rates. In September 2026, Wise’s Assets page showed the following variable rates:

Currency Rate
GBP 3.32%
USD 3.44%
EUR 2.02%

Rates shown on Wise’s Assets page in September 2026. Source: Wise.

These rates are not guaranteed and change with the market. You also pay a Wise fee and a fund manager fee, explained in the fees section below. Keep in mind that Wise Interest is an investment in a fund, not a savings account, so your money is not covered by a deposit guarantee scheme and its value can go down, although government money market funds are among the lowest-risk investments available.

Which countries can invest in Stocks at Wise?

Wise Stocks is available in fewer countries than Wise itself. According to Wise, as of September 2026, you can switch your currencies and Jars1 to Stocks if your registered address is in:

  • The UK;
  • Switzerland;
  • Singapore;
  • 24 EEA countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland (personal customers only), Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.

Neither Interest nor Stocks is available in Belgium or Liechtenstein, and in Australia, Brazil, Cyprus, Iceland, Italy and Poland, Wise only offers Interest.

When you choose Stocks, Wise invests the whole currency balance or Jar in a single global equity fund. You cannot pick individual stocks or ETFs:

Region Fund Wise fee Fund fee
UK, Switzerland and EEA iShares World Equity Index Fund (LU) Class N2 EUR, managed by BlackRock 0.44% 0.15%
Singapore Infinity Global Stock Index Fund USD Class, managed by Lion Global Investors 0.237% 0.475%

The fees are annual. The Wise fee is charged monthly from your account, while the fund manager fee is already reflected in the value of the fund. Source: Wise.

Keep in mind that not every type of business can use these features. If you have a business account and do not see the option to switch a Jar or currency to Interest or Stocks, Wise cannot onboard your business yet.

Which countries can earn Interest at Wise?

Interest is available in more countries than Stocks. As of September 2026, you can switch your currencies and Jars to Interest if your registered address is in the UK, Switzerland, Singapore, Australia, Brazil (personal customers only) or any of these 28 EEA countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

When you choose Interest, Wise invests all the money in that currency or Jar in a money market fund for that currency. The fund depends on where you live:

Region Funds Wise fee Fund fee
UK BlackRock ICS Sterling, Euro and US Treasury funds (Premier Dis) GBP 0.45%, EUR 0.16%, USD 0.18% 0.10%
Switzerland, Brazil and most of Western Europe (Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden) BlackRock ICS Sterling, Euro and US Treasury funds (Premier Acc) GBP 0.45%, EUR 0.16%, USD 0.18% 0.10%
Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia JPMorgan Liquidity Funds (EUR Government CNAV and USD Treasury CNAV). GBP, where available, through BlackRock EUR 0.13%, USD 0.15% (GBP 0.45%) 0.16% (GBP 0.10%)
Singapore LionGlobal SGD Money Market Fund (SGD) and Fidelity Institutional Liquidity Funds (USD, EUR, GBP) SGD 0.43%, others 0.34% SGD 0.25%, others 0.10%
Australia Franklin Government Cash Fund (AUD and USD) 0.569% 0.15%

Fees are annual and taken from the return of the fund, so what you actually earn is the fund’s yield minus both fees. For example, if you invest £1,000 for a year in the UK, you pay about £5.50 in total: £4.50 of Wise fee (0.45%) and £1 of fund fee (0.10%). Source: Wise.

Change for UK customers: since 3 September 2026, UK Interest uses distributing share classes. Your gains are paid into your account at the start of each month, and you can send and spend your money at any time, although transfers above your daily limit can take up to 2 working days.

In the EU, Interest and Stocks are provided by Wise Assets Europe AS, an investment firm authorised in Estonia. Your cash balances, on the other hand, stay under Wise’s e-money licence.

Which countries can earn Cashback at Wise?

If you live in the European Economic Area (EEA) and do not want to invest, Wise also pays balance cashback to all EEA customers on the EUR, GBP and USD they hold as cash.

You receive cashback on any currency balance and Jar with a positive balance of EUR, GBP or USD held as cash. There are some cases where you do not receive cashback:

wise.com

How is Cashback calculated?

Wise pays cashback every month on the EUR, GBP and USD in your Wise account. The rate is variable, and Wise can change it or stop paying it at any time. For eligible balances held in August 2026, Wise paid an annualised cashback rate of:

  • 1.00% on EUR;
  • 2.20% on GBP;
  • 2.20% on USD.

Since Wise Europe is based in Belgium, cashback is subject to a 30% Belgian withholding tax, which Wise deducts before paying it.

Example: if you held a balance of 1,000 GBP and a Jar of 2,000 EUR for the whole of August 2026, you would have received 1.31 GBP into your balance and 1.19 EUR into your Jar, after the 30% withholding tax.

Because Wise only pays cashback above a small minimum amount, you would have needed to hold at least 54 GBP, 118 EUR or 54 USD for the whole month to receive any cashback at August 2026 rates.

Cashback rates are lower than Wise Interest, but your money stays as cash rather than being invested in a fund.

Wise alternatives for stocks and interest

Wise Assets is simple, but limited: you can only hold one global equity fund or a money market fund per currency, and it is not available everywhere. If you want to choose your own stocks and ETFs, or earn interest in more countries, these platforms offer a broader range:

Bottom line

Wise offers a simple way to grow the money you already hold in your Wise account, through its Assets product: you can keep each currency or Jar as Cash, switch it to Interest (a government money market fund) or switch it to Stocks (a single global equity fund). Availability has grown a lot, and it now covers the UK, Switzerland, Singapore, Australia, Brazil and most of the EEA, although Stocks is still only available in some of these countries.

However, Wise Assets is limited in the choice it gives you: one fund per option, no individual stocks or ETFs, and annual fees of up to 0.45% for Wise plus the fund manager’s fee. In this article, we’ve highlighted some of the best alternatives, such as Interactive Brokers, eToro, Saxo, Revolut, Lightyear and Webull.

Each alternative has pros and cons, so consider them carefully before deciding. Together, they offer a wider range of investments for anyone who wants more than what Wise offers today.

FAQs

What happens if I hold my money in Interest or Stocks and I move to another country?

Any money you invested before moving stays invested, and you can keep adding money to existing Interest and Stocks currencies or Jars. However, you cannot switch other currencies or Jars to Interest or Stocks until you move back to a country where they are available, and if you switch an invested currency or Jar back to cash, you cannot switch it back.

There are exceptions: if your new address is in the US or Israel, Wise switches all your invested currencies and Jars back to cash and sells your units as soon as you update your address. If you move from Singapore to Canada, Wise does the same with any USD held as Interest.

Is Wise Interest and Stocks available in the USA?

Not in the form described in this article. Because of how its fund partners are regulated, Wise cannot offer Assets to US citizens or US taxpayers, including dual citizens. US residents can, however, earn interest on USD balances through a separate Wise programme for the US.

Is Wise Interest and Stocks available in Africa?

No, Wise Interest and Stocks is not available in any African country, such as South Africa, Nigeria or Kenya.

Is Wise Interest and Stocks available in Asia and Oceania?

In Asia, only in Singapore, where both Interest and Stocks are available. In Oceania, Australian residents can use Interest (in AUD and USD), but not Stocks. It is not available in countries such as Thailand, India or Indonesia.

Is Wise Interest and Stocks available in Latin America?

Only in Brazil, where personal customers can use Interest in USD, EUR and GBP. Stocks is not available, and neither product is available in countries such as Mexico or Argentina.

Is Wise Interest and Stocks available in the MENA region?

No, it is not available in the UAE or other countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Is Wise Interest and Stocks available in Switzerland?

Yes. Swiss residents can now use both Interest (in USD, EUR and GBP) and Stocks.

1A Jar is a place in your Wise account where you can set aside money you want to use later, in any currency.
