How the Coinbase bonus works
Coinbase used to run this welcome offer with the promo code 30BTC30, which paid €30 in BTC. That promotion has ended. The current offer pays €15 in Bitcoin and is tied to the sign-up link, so you don’t need to enter any code.
Here is how it works:
- Step 1, open your account: sign up through our Coinbase link with an email address you have never used on Coinbase.
- Step 2, verify your identity: upload a valid ID document and complete the identity checks.
- Step 3, add a payment method: link a card or bank account to your Coinbase account.
- Step 4, buy crypto: make your first crypto purchase on the standard Coinbase app or website. The €15 in BTC is added to your balance after this first trade.
Under the new user trade terms, you have up to one year from account creation to add a payment method and make that first purchase. Coinbase says the reward reaches your balance within 48 hours once all conditions are met. The terms also note that a minimum trade amount may apply, so check the amount shown in the app before you buy.
What can make you lose the bonus
The offer is simple, but a few details decide whether you get it:
- You must be a new user: it is only for people who have never bought crypto on Coinbase. If you opened an account before with a different email or phone number, you are not eligible.
- Referral invites don’t qualify: users who joined through a friend’s Coinbase Referral Program link cannot get this bonus.
- Coinbase Advanced trades don’t count: your first purchase must be on the standard Coinbase app or website. Trades on Coinbase Advanced or Coinbase Prime are excluded.
- Transferred crypto doesn’t count: the first purchase must be a real buy. Moving crypto in from another wallet or exchange does not trigger the reward.
- One offer at a time: the bonus cannot be combined with any other Coinbase offer or promotion.
Coinbase can also review new accounts and withhold the reward if it finds a fraud or eligibility issue. It can change the conditions at any time, so read the terms on the offer page before you sign up.
How much is €15 in Bitcoin worth?
The bonus is credited as €15 worth of BTC at the time of payment. After that, its value follows the Bitcoin price. If BTC falls 20% after you receive it, your bonus is worth €12. If it rises 20%, it is worth €18. You can keep it, sell it or move it like any other crypto in your account.
Keep in mind that Coinbase includes a spread in the price when you buy or sell crypto, on top of its fees. For a small first purchase, these costs can take a visible share of what you invest.

How to open a Coinbase account in Europe
- Go to the Coinbase sign-up page and choose your country of residence.
- Create your account with your email and a strong password, then turn on two-step verification.
- Upload your ID and complete the identity checks.
- Add a payment method, such as a debit card or a SEPA bank transfer.
- Make your first crypto purchase in the standard Coinbase app or website.
Is Coinbase regulated in the EU?
Yes. In June 2025, Luxembourg’s financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), granted Coinbase a licence as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) under MiCA, the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. Coinbase uses this licence to serve clients in all EU countries through Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. You can check the entity on the AMF list of authorised crypto-asset service providers.
MiCA sets rules on how a crypto platform must hold client assets, handle conflicts of interest and disclose risks. However, it does not protect you from price falls. There is also no deposit guarantee or investor compensation scheme for crypto: if the market drops, the loss is yours.
Coinbase Global, the parent company, is listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker COIN.
About Coinbase
Coinbase is one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world. On its European offer page it lists more than 310 cryptocurrencies to trade, staking rewards of up to 14% on eligible assets, maker fees from 0% in Coinbase Advanced, limit, market and stop orders and a Visa card to spend euros or crypto.
Staking rates change over time and are only available in eligible countries and for eligible networks. The 0% maker fee applies only to Coinbase Advanced, which uses a maker-taker fee model. Trades in the standard app cost more. Before you trade often, compare the fees in the app with the alternatives in our list of the best crypto wallets in Europe.
Coinbase is a crypto platform, not a broker for shares or ETFs. Crypto assets are volatile and you can lose all the money you put in. The welcome bonus is a small incentive to try the platform and should not be the reason to buy crypto.
Bottom line
Sign up through our Coinbase link and you get €15 in Bitcoin after your first crypto purchase. No promo code is needed and the offer runs until 31 December 2026. It is only for new users, it does not work with referral invites and trades on Coinbase Advanced don’t count.
In the EU, you sign up with Coinbase Luxembourg S.A., licensed under MiCA by the CSSF. That licence does not protect you from losses. Crypto prices can fall fast, so only invest money you can afford to lose.
This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice. Crypto assets are highly volatile and you may lose all the money you invest. Crypto assets are not covered by deposit guarantee or investor compensation schemes.
