Does XTB support MT5?

Unfortunately, no, XTB does not support MT5. XTB has its own trading platform, xStation 5, which is also available on mobile. Below you can find the clarification of XTB on this question:

“We offer our clients the award-winning trading platform xStation 5. We do not offer ctrader, MT4/MT5, Ninja Trader.”

MT5 Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Economic calendar
  • 80 built-in indicators used in technical analysis
  • 21 different timeframes
  • Can simultaneously display up to 100 currencies and stock quote charts
  • Developed using MLQ5, you can add other trading algorithms to the platform

Cons

  • Some features may appear too advanced for beginners
  • The MT5 platform is more complex than the MT4 platform
  • Programs developed for MT4 will not operate on MT5

What are the differences between MT4 and MT5?

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) introduced several new trading capabilities compared with MT4, including more advanced charting tools, 12 additional timeframes, an integrated economic calendar, and a wider set of built-in technical indicators. Although the interfaces feel similar, MT5 is not intended as a replacement for MT4.

The two platforms serve distinct purposes and cater to different user segments. Forex traders have historically gravitated toward MT4, since it was originally built around their needs. MT5, by contrast, is more commonly used for CFDs, stocks, and futures trading, particularly on centralised exchanges.

The main differences between MT4 and MT5 include:

  • Programming language: MT4 uses MQL4, while MT5 uses MQL5. The newer language supports more sophisticated trading robots, technical indicators, and scripts;
  • Expert Advisor libraries: MT4 offered access to extensive Expert Advisor (EA) libraries which are no longer directly available in the same form on MT5, meaning some legacy EAs need to be re-coded;
  • Performance: MT5 is a multi-threaded, 64-bit platform, making it faster and more efficient than the single-threaded, 32-bit MT4;
  • Market coverage: MT4 is primarily designed for decentralised markets (particularly forex and CFDs), while MT5 extends to centralised exchanges, enabling trading of stocks, futures, and commodities;
  • Netting vs hedging: MT5 supports both netting and hedging, while MT4 supports hedging only. For example, if you open a long GBP/USD position and later open another long position in the same market, MT5 (in netting mode) treats them as a single aggregated position rather than two independent ones – which is closer to how equities and futures markets typically work.

There are further technical differences between MT4 and MT5, but the above covers the most practical points for a trader deciding between the two.

Bottom line

XTB does not currently support MetaTrader 5 and has not indicated any plans to add it in the future. If MT5 specifically is a requirement, we have highlighted several credible MT5-supporting brokers earlier in this article. Like MT4, MT5 allows access to forex and CFD markets, and it additionally supports stocks, options, and futures trading on centralised exchanges.

Ultimately, the features and characteristics of MT5 will not matter to every trader. That is precisely why some brokers – XTB included – focus their offering on their own proprietary platforms (in XTB’s case, xStation 5, which is regularly award-winning for usability and execution). If your trading is concentrated around forex and CFDs, staying with a proprietary platform like xStation 5 may deliver a better overall experience. If you actively trade a broader set of asset classes – particularly stocks, futures, and commodities – MT5 through a dedicated MT5-supporting broker is likely the better fit.
