Is Vantage legal in India? Vantage accepts Indian residents. However, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) lists Vantage Markets on its Alert List of entities that are not authorised to deal in forex or to run forex trading platforms. Under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), residents who send money to trade forex on unauthorised platforms are liable for legal action.

Vantage also told us in October 2026 that its deposit bonus is not available to Indian clients. Below we explain what the RBI listing means, which Vantage promotions Indian residents can see and how the referral code J7RiYkQ9 works.

Is Vantage legal in India?

The RBI publishes an Alert List of entities that are neither authorised to deal in forex under FEMA nor authorised to run electronic trading platforms (ETPs) for forex. In the version updated on 19 November 2025, entry 40 reads “Vantage Markets”, with the website vantagemarkets.com. The RBI adds that the list is not exhaustive. An entity that is not on it should not be assumed to be authorised.

In its September 2022 press release, the RBI says residents can only carry out forex transactions with authorised persons and for permitted purposes. Electronic forex trading is only allowed on ETPs authorised by the RBI or on recognised stock exchanges: the National Stock Exchange (NSE), BSE and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India. Residents who trade forex on unauthorised ETPs, or for purposes FEMA does not allow, “shall render themselves liable for legal action under the FEMA”. A February 2023 release repeats that this applies to residents who remit or deposit money for such transactions, directly or indirectly.

In short, opening a Vantage account and depositing money from India to trade forex CFDs puts you on the wrong side of FEMA, even though Vantage accepts the account.

Is Vantage banned in India?

The RBI does not use the word “ban”. Its Alert List warns the public that the entity is not authorised and that residents who use it are liable for legal action. Vantage’s pages are also inconsistent: its international pages list India among the countries it does not serve, while its Hindi website does not. Vantage confirmed to us in October 2026 that Indian residents can open an account.

Vantage bonuses for Indian clients

Vantage confirmed to investingintheweb.com in October 2026 that India is not included in its current deposit bonus. The deposit bonus page on the Hindi website is marked as expired. Vantage says other promotions for the region may be available and that Indian clients can see the offers open to them in the Promotions section of the Client Portal.

On 12 October 2026, the Hindi promotions page listed a cashback campaign on 24/7 gold CFDs (Trick and Trade) running until 7 November 2026. Most other campaigns on that page had already ended.

The Refer a Friend promotion is not an option with our code either. Section 3 of the Refer a Friend terms excludes clients linked to an Introducing Broker (IB, a partner that introduces clients to the broker) or a CPA (cost-per-acquisition) partner.

How the Vantage referral code works

The referral code is the part of the sign-up where Vantage asks who introduced you. The field is labelled “Referred by”. Our code, J7RiYkQ9, is a partner code. It records investingintheweb.com as the partner that introduced you and does not unlock a bonus of its own.

Which Vantage entity serves Indian residents?

Vantage has no licence from the RBI or from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Accounts opened through its international websites are with Vantage Global Limited, regulated in Vanuatu. The Hindi website’s footer also names VIG Group, licensed in Mauritius.

Entity Regulator Clients
Vantage Global Limited VFSC, Vanuatu (700271) International (issuer of the promotion terms)
VIG Group FSC, Mauritius (GB20026165) International
Vantage Markets (Pty) Ltd FSCA, South Africa (FSP 51268) South Africa
Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd ASIC, Australia (AFSL 428901) Australia
Vantage Global Prime LLP FCA, UK (FRN 590299) UK

VFSC: Vanuatu Financial Services Commission. FSC: Financial Services Commission. FSCA: Financial Sector Conduct Authority. ASIC: Australian Securities and Investments Commission. FCA: Financial Conduct Authority. Source: Vantage regulation page and Vantage Hindi website, October 2026.

None of these regulators protects Indian residents in the way SEBI does for clients of Indian brokers. If you have a dispute, the rules of Vanuatu or Mauritius apply.

How to trade currencies legally in India

If you want exposure to currencies, the RBI points to two routes: ETPs that the RBI has authorised and currency derivatives on the recognised stock exchanges (NSE, BSE and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India). You reach the exchanges through a SEBI-registered stockbroker. You can check a platform against the RBI’s list of authorised ETPs before you send any money.

Currency derivatives are still leveraged products with a high risk of loss. Being legal does not make them suitable for most beginners.

About Vantage Markets

Vantage Markets (Vantage) is a multi-asset CFD and forex broker founded in 2009. It says it serves more than 5 million traders and offers more than 1,000 CFD products across forex, indices, commodities (including gold and oil), shares and ETFs, traded on MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView, its own web platform and the Vantage app.

Bottom line

Vantage accepts Indian residents, but the RBI lists Vantage Markets on its Alert List (entry 40, updated 19 November 2025). Under FEMA, residents who deposit money to trade forex on unauthorised platforms are liable for legal action. The deposit bonus is not available in India. Our referral code J7RiYkQ9 does not add a bonus of its own.

For an Indian resident, the legal routes are RBI-authorised ETPs and currency derivatives on NSE, BSE or the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India, through a SEBI-registered broker.

This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial or legal advice. CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. The vast majority of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Indian residents should check the RBI’s rules under FEMA before trading forex with any provider.
