Many forex brokers that accept South African clients offer a welcome bonus, but the offers are very different. Some give you trading credit on top of your deposit, others give you a small amount to trade without depositing anything, and some of the offers you see advertised are not open to South African residents at all.
In this guide we compare the forex brokers with a welcome bonus in South Africa, checking each bonus on the broker’s own website: how much you get, what you need to deposit, which company holds your account and what you must do to withdraw your profits.
Our top pick is Vantage, which offers a deposit bonus of up to 50% to South African clients and has a South African entity regulated by the FSCA.
Best forex brokers with a welcome bonus in South Africa
A welcome bonus can give you more margin to trade with, but the terms matter more than the headline amount. These are the brokers whose bonus is open to South African residents, checked in October 2026:
Vantage: Best deposit bonus
Vantage gives South African clients a deposit bonus of 50% on the first deposit, up to USD 500, plus 20% on later deposits. It has a South African entity regulated by the FSCA, a $50 minimum deposit and local bank transfers in South Africa. Sign up with our referral code IEUlc3lQ.
XM: Best no deposit bonus
XM offers a $30 no deposit trading bonus to new clients of XM Global, plus a deposit bonus whose size varies by region. The minimum deposit is only $5. Sign up with our XM partner code Y92YD. The trade-off is that XM Global is regulated offshore, by the FSC of Belize.

Not on the list: the $30 Welcome Account from Tickmill often appears in searches for forex bonuses, but Tickmill lists South Africa among the countries where it is not available. JustMarkets and FBS did not show an active welcome bonus on their websites when we checked.
#1 Vantage at a glance
Vantage is a CFD and forex broker founded in 2009 in Sydney, Australia, with more than 1,000 CFDs on forex, indices, commodities, shares, ETFs and bonds. In South Africa it operates through Vantage Markets (Pty) Ltd, an authorised Financial Service Provider regulated by the FSCA under FSP number 51268, with a registered address in Claremont, Cape Town.
Vantage has confirmed that its deposit bonus is available to South African clients. In the base terms, you get 50% of your first deposit as trading credit, up to USD 500, and 20% on later deposits, with total credit capped at USD 20,000. The exact percentage for your account is shown in the eligibility checker on Vantage’s website.
How the bonus works:
- Opt in first: you must opt in to the promotion in the client portal or app before your first deposit, and complete facial recognition
- Trading credit only: the bonus adds margin to your account but cannot be withdrawn
- Profits are yours: you can withdraw the profits you make, but withdrawing funds removes part of the credit in proportion
When you register, enter our referral code IEUlc3lQ in the “Referred by” field. The code does not add a separate bonus, but it keeps you eligible for the deposit bonus.
Key Forex highlights:
- Standard STP account with no commission and spreads from 1.0 pips, or Raw ECN with spreads from 0.0 pips and $3 per lot per side
- MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView and the Vantage App, with built-in copy trading
- Local South Africa bank transfer for deposits, with no deposit fees charged by Vantage
- Negative balance protection and segregated client funds
One point to check: Vantage runs several entities, and its sign-up notice may place your account with Vantage Global Limited in Vanuatu rather than the FSCA entity. Look at the company named in your client agreement before you deposit.
Step-by-step instructions are in our Vantage South Africa referral code guide, and the full broker analysis is in our Vantage Markets review.
#2 XM at a glance
71.61% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider.
XM says it is trusted by more than 20 million traders and offers over 1,400 instruments. South African clients are served by XM Global Limited, regulated by the Financial Services Commission of Belize. South Africa is not on XM’s list of restricted countries, which names the US, Canada, Israel, Iran and other sanctioned jurisdictions.
The $30 no deposit trading bonus lets you trade without putting in your own money. Under the XM Global terms:
- You must claim it within 30 days of opening your trading account, and activate it with SMS or phone verification
- The bonus itself cannot be withdrawn
- You can withdraw profits once you have traded at least 0.1 standard lots and completed at least 5 round-turn trades
XM also runs a deposit bonus, but its availability and percentage vary by region, so check the offer shown in your Members Area before depositing. You can read the details in our XM welcome bonus guide.
When you register, you can enter our XM partner code Y92YD, which links your account to us as the introducing broker. It does not change spreads or commissions and can only be entered during sign-up. More details are in our XM partner code guide, or you can sign up directly through this link.
Key Forex highlights:
- Standard and Ultra Low accounts from a $5 deposit
- Negative balance protection, hedging and an Islamic option on all accounts
- MT4, MT5 and the XM App
The main drawback for South Africans is regulation: XM Global is licensed in Belize, an offshore jurisdiction with lighter rules than the FSCA.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Bonus terms change often, so check the current conditions on each broker’s website before you deposit.
Deposit bonus or no deposit bonus: which is better?
The two types of bonus work very differently:
- Deposit bonus: the broker adds a percentage of your deposit as trading credit. Vantage, for example, adds 50% of your first deposit up to USD 500. The credit increases your margin, but it also lets you open larger positions, and with them larger losses
- No deposit bonus: the broker gives you a small fixed amount, usually $30, to trade without depositing. It is a cheap way to test a platform with real market conditions, but the amount is too small to matter for your returns
In both cases the bonus itself can almost never be withdrawn. What you can withdraw are the profits, and only after meeting conditions such as verifying your account, trading a minimum volume or making a deposit.
So which is better? A no deposit bonus suits someone who wants to try a broker before committing money. A deposit bonus is only worth considering if you already planned to deposit with that broker for its trading conditions. A bonus should never be the reason to choose a leveraged trading account.
How to check a forex broker in South Africa
The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) is the conduct regulator for financial services in South Africa. Before you open an account, check these points:
- FSP number: a broker with a South African entity must show its FSP number, which you can confirm on the FSCA website. Vantage, for example, is FSP 51268
- Which entity holds your account: many international brokers have an FSCA-licensed company but open accounts for South Africans through an offshore entity. Your client agreement names the company that holds your money
- Offshore licences: regulators such as the FSC in Belize or the FSA in Seychelles allow high leverage and bonuses, but give you fewer safeguards if something goes wrong
- Negative balance protection: check that the broker offers it, so you cannot lose more than the money in your account
Unlike the EU, the UK and Australia, South Africa has no general ban on trading bonuses. That is why most of the bonuses in this guide are open to South Africans but not to European or British clients.
There is also exchange control to consider. Funding an account with a broker based abroad counts as sending money offshore, which you can do within the single discretionary allowance of R2 million per calendar year (raised from R1 million in April 2026). Larger amounts need a tax clearance from SARS.
Bottom line
South Africans have more bonus options than traders in Europe or the UK, but not every offer you see advertised is open to you, and the terms vary a lot. Our picks, checked on each broker’s website in October 2026:
If you want a larger bonus with a broker that has a South African licence, Vantage is the strongest option, with 50% on the first deposit up to USD 500 and an FSCA-regulated entity. If you only want to try a platform without depositing, XM offers a $30 no deposit bonus.
