Did you know about ARK Invest before the pandemic? Most people didn’t. The firm rose to global prominence during the COVID-19 market boom, thanks to its high-conviction focus on disruptive innovation and the rapidly growing visibility of its founder, Cathie Wood.

In just a few years, Wood transformed ARK from a relatively unknown asset manager into one of the most talked-about names in the ETF industry. At its 2021 peak, ARK ranked among the largest active ETF issuers in the US, fuelled by extraordinary 2020 performance and bold forecasts – including that Tesla stock would reach $4,000 by 2023 (which didn’t happen at the time, though Tesla’s price has moved significantly since on a split-adjusted basis) and Bitcoin rising to $500,000. ARK’s flagship funds also experienced significant drawdowns through 2022-2023 as growth and unprofitable tech stocks fell sharply.

The ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) isn’t the company’s first ETF, but it has become its flagship product – concentrating ARK’s highest-conviction ideas across multiple disruptive-innovation themes (genomics, AI/robotics, fintech, space, and others) into a single actively managed fund.

So, can European or UK investors invest in ARKK ETF?

Yes – since April 2024, European and UK investors have been able to invest directly in a UCITS version of the ARK Innovation ETF, without needing to access the US-listed version or rely on CFDs.

Following ARK Invest’s acquisition of Rize ETF in 2023 (now rebranded as ARK Invest Europe), the firm launched a suite of actively managed UCITS ETFs listed on the London Stock Exchange, Xetra, CBOE Amsterdam, Borsa Italiana, and SIX. The flagship is the ARK Innovation UCITS ETF (ticker ARKK, ISIN IE000GA3D489), which mirrors the strategy of the US-listed ARKK. It’s classified as Article 8 under SFDR.

Key points before investing:

  • Availability: now offered by most European brokers that distribute UCITS ETFs, including Trading 212, XTB, DEGIRO, Interactive Brokers, Hargreaves Lansdown, and Interactive Investor.
  • Assets Under Management: ~£204 million / ~$260 million as of May 2026. Funds below the $500 million threshold can be more vulnerable to closure, though ARK Invest Europe is actively building out its UCITS range.
  • Total Expense Ratio (TER): 0.75% – high for an ETF, but in line with other actively managed thematic funds.

Other ETFs to consider from ARK Invest:

ETF name ISIN Tickers TER AUM
ARK Innovation UCITS ETF IE000GA3D489 ARKK, ARCK, ARXK 0.75% ~$290 million
ARK Artificial Intelligence & Robotics UCITS ETF IE0003A512E4 ARCI, AAKI, ARKIx, ARKI 0.75% ~$300 million
ARK Genomic Revolution UCITS ETF IE000O5M6XO1 ARKG, AAKG, ARKGx, ARCG 0.75% ~$40 million
Rize Global Sustainable Infrastructure UCITS ETF* IE000QUCVEN9 RIZD, NFRA, BRIK 0.45% ~$65 million

Data as of May 2026.
*The Rize ETF is the result of a partnership with ARK.

Another option is to indirectly invest in the “original” ARK Invest ETFs through CFDs – explained below. Since US-listed ETFs do not comply with European UCITS regulations (indicated by their ISIN starting with “US” – for example, US00214Q1040), they cannot be offered to European investors.

European regulation
Why is that? Because in 2018, the European legislation, when PRIIPs came into force alongside the MiFID II rules, required new Key Investor Information Documents (KIDs) in the language of each European country. Most ETF providers decided it was not worth the effort (to be honest, some of the biggest ETF providers already had a European version of their US ETFs).

Thus, if you search for “ARK Innovation” or “ARKK” on any European broker platform, you will likely find no results unless it is a contract-for-difference (CFD).

What is a CFD?

A CFD allows you to achieve the same returns (positive or negative) as you would by investing directly in the asset by replicating it. It can also provide leverage to potentially increase your returns. Therefore, a CFD can give you the same exposure to the ARKK ETF by mimicking its daily movements (1-to-1 or even in a leveraged format). This is called indirect exposure since you do not actually own the asset.

How accurate is the CFD replication?

In eToro – a Nasdaq-listed broker (ticker ETOR, since May 2025) with over 38 million users – you can buy a CFD on ARKK.. As previously stated, in practice, owning the ARKK ETF or a non-levered CFD of ARKK ETF should give you a very similar performance, as shown here (performance from 21/11/2024 to 21/11/2025):

  • ARK Innovation ETF:

ARK Innovation ETF - 1 year performance
  • CFD on ARK Innovation ETF:

ARK Innovation ETF - 1 year performance (CFD)

As you can notice, the “real” ARK Innovation ETF had a one-year performance of +31%. On the other hand, the CFD on ARK Innovation ETF had a one-year performance of +30.91% for the same period.

In eToro, you will not incur any overnight or weekend fees for using a CFD to trade ARKK ETF when using an “X1 leverage” factor. In other words, a 1% move in the ETF will dictate a 1% move in the CFD.

Still, if you want to get more aggressive, you can leverage your exposure up to 5 times (additional leverage fees will apply). The only fee you will face is the spread for buy/selling, which, for US-based instruments, is $0.02 per share.

This is what it looks like before giving a buy/sell order:

69-80% of retail CFD accounts lose money.

XTB offers exposure to the ARK Innovation theme. In several European countries (including Portugal) XTB now lists real ETFs in addition to CFDs, so it is worth checking the ARKK UCITS availability directly in the XTB search bar before defaulting to the CFD route.

Where only the CFD is available, XTB historically applies a 5x leverage factor by default, meaning €100 invested gives you €500 of notional exposure (€100 yours plus €400 borrowed), with overnight financing fees and other charges applying.

Bottom Line

All in all, European and UK investors now have multiple ways to get exposure to Cathie Wood’s flagship strategy:

  1. The ARK Innovation UCITS ETF (ticker ARKK, ISIN IE000GA3D489), the most direct option, available on most European brokers that distribute UCITS funds (Trading 212, DEGIRO, Interactive Brokers, Hargreaves Lansdown, Interactive Investor, and others).
  2. A CFD on ARKK, available on eToro, XTB and similar platforms, useful if you want short or leveraged exposure – but with the trade-off that you don’t own the underlying asset and pay spread costs on every transaction.
  3. Buying the US-listed ARKK directly via Interactive Brokers, if you specifically want the original US fund and your jurisdiction allows it (note that retail investors in the EEA generally face PRIIPs-related restrictions on US ETFs).

Nobody knows how “disruptive technology” will behave in the next market cycle. We continue to believe that ARK’s funds offer investors a way to participate in long-term thematic opportunities across robotics, artificial intelligence, energy storage, multiomic sequencing and blockchain technology – while keeping in mind that thematic, actively-managed strategies carry concentrated risks and significant historical volatility.

We hope this guide helped clarify how ARKK is currently accessible for European and UK investors.
