Did Trading 212 discontinue IWDA ETF in EUR? Alternatives!

Franklin Silva| Updated: February 29, 2024

Trading 212 is an online broker offering a wide range of investment products, including more than 9,000 stocks and ETFs. However, a famous ETF is now missing from their trading instruments list: the iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF USD (Acc), widely known in investment communities as IWDA, the ticker associated with the London Stock Exchange (in USD) and the Euronext Amsterdam (in EUR). The former is available on Trading 212, but not the EUR version.

In this article, we will present alternatives within Trading 212 and, in case you want to keep investing in the same ETF, present other brokers that offer the IWDA traded on Euronext Amsterdam! Keep on reading!

Is IWDA ETF available in Trading 212?

Yes and no. Let me explain: The iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF USD (Acc) is traded on several stock exchanges. What varies between them is the liquidity, transaction costs and the currency denomination. The ticker IWDA (a code that is used to identify publicly traded assets) refers to two exchanges: the London Stock Exchange (IWDA LN) and the Euronext Amsterdam (IWDA NA).

The IWDA NA is no longer available in Trading 212 (as shown in the image below). Current Trading 212 investors who have previously bought this ETF will not be affected by this discontinuation, meaning you can keep your shares in the portfolio. However, you can no longer buy additional shares.

Is there any IWDA ETF alternative within Trading 212?

Yes! If you search for “IE00B4L5Y983”, the code that uniquely identifies the iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF, you will find three results coming from the Trading 212 app:

These are the differences between the three ETFs:

  • EUNL: This ETF is traded on the “Deutsche Borse Xetra” (Germany) and in euros (this is the most direct alternative to IWDA and the one highlighted in the image above);
  • IWDA: This ETF is the one mentioned in a previous topic above. It is traded on the London Stock Exchange and in dollars;
  • SWDA: This ETF is traded on the London Stock Exchange but quoted in pence (one-hundredth of a pound – GBP).

Conclusion

Trading 212 decided to discontinue IWDA ETF in euros for some unknown reason. Nonetheless, current IWDA investors in Trading 212 will not be affected by this change. Newcomers or investors trying to reinvest in IWDA will find it impossible to do so.

EUNL ETF is the closer option to IWDA (both replicate the same index – MSCI World – and trade in EUR). If you want to still invest in IWDA ETF, you will have to consider opening an account in another investment platform.
